The Challenge.

Begg x Co sought to expand its online presence in both the global wholesale B2B and local B2C verticals using the extensive features available in Adobe B2B commerce suite, building upon this feature set with bespoke functionality tailored to their target customer base.

Our Approach

We began by building a roadmap for the website in collaboration with Begg x Co, a key component of which included a move from Open Source to Adobe Commerce to utilise their tailored approach to configuration and the ability to scale easily.

The native features in Adobe Commerce, paired with our custom-built functionality, allowed Begg to create a personalised B2B and B2C experiences for customers in each of Begg x Co’s primary regions.

Key projects

Microsoft Dynamics AX integration for Begg x Co enabling region specific pricing and catalog access. The integration supports distinct customer groups with tailored product visibility and pricing.

Microsoft Dynamics AX integration

To allow regional websites to be set up with different prices SixBySix integrated Microsoft Dynamics AX, which created two main customer groups: discount and no discount. Each customer group had access to specific categories, products, and different prices. And once added they could be assigned to one of the two main customer groups, giving them a view of either of the shared catalogues.

Shared Catalog / Customer Group Pricing For Customers

We configured the websites to use the exclusive Adobe B2B Commerce feature, Shared Catalog, which allows for complete control over which products are displayed in which categories, at specific prices. The Shared Catalog feature allows Begg x Co to provide discounts en masse for distinct customer segments, a critical part of personalisation for customers in different regions.

Linking Customers and Account Managers to increase opportunity

One of the native features within Adobe Commerce is the ability to assign a sales/account manager to a specific client, this was also key to the B2B configuration required by Begg x Co. We enhanced this functionality by extending the Sales Representative features to allow the linking of related static content blocks by the customer.

Using the Contact Sales Representative global banner feature, which links to the static block enabled all users within a Company to click on a dedicated link which provided them with the contact information for their Account Manager.

Begg x Co requested changes to the wishlist functionality to improve usability by providing sorting options, export functions (print and PDF), and send to Sales Representative features. We developed a feature enabling customers to submit wishlists of products to their Account Manager, allowing for a follow-up conversation to be initiated with the customer.

A specific reporting tool was developed that sent a daily report to the Account Manager detailing all their Customer’s actions and orders for the previous day. This allowed them to maximise their communications and opportunities for closing sales.

Dropship Integration

Dropshipping in the e-commerce space has increased considerably over the past few years and was a key area of the business that Begg x Co wanted to develop to increase sales. The challenge was doing this with varied products and prices per retailer at scale.

Begg x Co wanted to use the websites of other international vendors on a variety of E-commerce platforms (Shopify, Magento 2, Centra etc) alongside the typical channels such as Google Shopping.

Given a list of around 20 retailers, we began by identifying the most common frameworks in use (Shopify and Magento 2) to tackle as first-phase integrations which would yield the most 3rd-party orders up-front.

We then developed API plugins for each framework allowing Begg x Co to create product/price feeds per retailer which were then automatically imported and listed on the retailer’s own eCommerce store. When an order was placed on the vendor’s store, and identified to contain one of Begg x Co’s products, these line items were automatically exported back to the Begg x Co’s store with customer delivery information so that the order could be fulfilled directly from their mill.

Flexible Configuration

Adobe Commerce Websites use a hierarchy of Websites, Stores, and Storeviews. These define where parts of the product, attribute, category, content element, or configuration settings apply. This key feature of Adobe Commerce offered flexible configuration to personalise the Begg x Co customer experience.

We carefully considered the configuration for where key parts of the data were set. For example, the base currency for a website, the product catalogue available at the Store level, and the presentation of this to the user at the Store View level. This offered an adjustable configuration where Price Imports could be done in the correct currency rather than importing a sector-specific price in GBP and letting it be converted to the appropriate currency.
